Established in 1981, Montclair State University's Gifted & Talented Summer Academy provides engaging and challenging courses designed to meet the intellectual and social-emotional needs of high-ability students. The Summer Academy contains 2 three-week session from early July to mid-August every year, and offers three different day options (half-day, full-day, and extended-day). The Summer Academy provides gr. 1-12 students with a balanced program of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities, and the fine arts. Courses stimulate higher-order thinking skills and problem solving and include a diverse array of topics such as: forensics, robotics, programming, astrophysics, aviation science, chemistry, debate, genetics, epidemiology, and more. Our small class size and low teacher-student ratio allow us to provide students with customized courses. Students delve into topics of personal interest while engaging with other students who have similar abilities and passions. Our instructors have diverse backgrounds and include university professors, teachers of the gifted, and professionals with real-world experience in the topics they present.
Since the program’s inception in 1981, MSU G&T has served more than 10,000 gifted and talented students; they come from an average of 100 different towns in New Jersey as well as a diverse array of out-of-state and international students from Pennsylvania, New York, and even South Korea.
